A Modern Classic Martha Stewart Summer

August 10, 2026 Morgan Cafaro

Homemade pizza straight from the grill

I once read that August was the Sunday of Summer, and I can’t stop thinking about that! Are we coming to August with the Sunday scaries or just taking a moment to enjoy the day/ season before diving headfirst into the school crazy? Here in the North East, school is a month away. Despite my algorithm saying otherwise, I fully intend to squeeze out every last glorious drop of summer. And who better than Martha Stewart to look to for all things seasonal? Here are 25 ways I’m making it a Martha Stewart Summer because we still have half of summer to go!

Garden

  1. Start a cutting garden - It’s tres tres chic to be able to add some blooms to your home that you’ve grown yourself. Extra points for sharing the wealth with friends and family. No extra errand required!

  2. Start a veggie garden - Ditto above.

  3. Start a cocktail herb garden. Basil, rosemary, thyme. Experiment with fun cocktails and mocktail recipes.

  4. Grow your own gifts. Think harvest baskets, herb bundles and infusions, dried flowers for wreaths. Homemade just feels more intentional.

Host

  1. Host a BBQ - a summer classic. Just family or a neighborhood bash, BBQs can be dressed up or down.

  2. Have a design your own pizza bar. A HUGE fan favorite at our house. Grilled pizza has upped the ante and made a simple meal feel extra special.

  3. Clambake at the beach. Nothing says Summer like a clambake.

  4. Fire pit after dinner. Pair with a s’more board.

  5. Dine alfresco as much as possible.

  6. Dress up the table for every meal. Linen napkins, candles, fun tablecloths. Experiment!

  7. Host cousin camp. I’m super excited to do a mini cousin camp at the lake this month.

  8. Picnic. Don’t overthink it, just bring the blanket, a cooler and head to your favorite spot.

Home

  1. Dry linens outside. Line dried sheets can not be beat.

  2. Open the windows as much as possible. We’ve been sleeping with the windows open and the breeze is sort of heavenly.

  3. Diffuse essential oils.

  4. Make your own linen sprays. Spritz them on your pillows as you make the bed for a fresh finish.

Food

  1. Visit the farmers market. We recently took a family outing to our local market and made a game of cooking only with what we found. It was simple, but a fun challenge for the kids.

  2. Create garden meals. Showcase those veggies you’ve worked so hard to grow. We are knee deep in zucchini over here!

  3. Dehydrate citrus for cocktails and mocktails. Totally unnecessary, but also, so fun!

  4. Use herbs as cake decorations. Candled or plain, this just feels so elevated to me.

  5. Make jam.

  6. Make yogurt from scratch. I’m on this bandwagon in a big way. Zero sugar, and my kids actually will eat it.

  7. Grill everything - veggies, pizza, pancakes!

  8. S’more-gestboard - Add different types of chocolates and marshmallows for fun spin on the classic combo. Current favorites - dark chocolate with sea salt.

  9. Make ice cream from scratch and have a toppings bar. A few different types of sprinkles (that you probably already have!) go a long way!
